The existing King Post for New 60’ Burner Boom was found to be inadequate due to
excessive corrosion and insufficient strength.
So, for installation of Boom on vessel, New Kingpost is designed (for Stbd and
Port). Burner Boom & King Post is analyzed for new Environmental condition. Deck
structure is analyzed for Loads imposed by Burner Boom & King Post.
The Kingpost is designed as Truss structure with a Platform at the top of
Structure and an access ladder. The platform is provided for access to rigging
accessories and for locking & unlocking Burner Boom. King Post footings are
decided considering present deck obstruction. Truss type structure is selected
considering crowded deck area. King post in inserted into transverse web frames
due to high support reactions.
It involves the design of stacking arrangement of Boom on King post during
Transit condition and design of wind stays to support the boom horizontally
against wind. Appropriate locking arrangement is provided to stack the boom
on King post. Locking arrangement is spring operated & designed such way that it
operated automatically with less manual attention. The Stacking of Burner Boom
is facilitated by Wire Ropes, Snatch blocks and Air Winch. The Air Winch is
placed in the Kingpost itself to save deck area.
The Burner Boom and Kingposts are analyzed for severe Environmental condition of
Vertical acceleration of ‘1g’ and lateral acceleration of ‘0.5g’ and wind speed
of 97 knots. Burner
Boom structure is modeled in 'SACS' and King Post & deck structure is modeled in
'SESAM'.
